Honeywell Home T6 Pro TH6220WF Review

Wifi thermostats are quite popular now and are replacing the dial ones. Their programmability allows you to conserve energy as it optimizes the use of energy to its best. Smart thermostats essentially have control over the HVAC system in your home, which maximizes your comfort. They come with many other features as well but those vary according to different brands. Some of the top brand names include Honeywell, Emerson Sensei, Ecobee, Lux GEO, and Google Nest.

Smart thermostats have compatibility factors that need to be taken into first. I too made the mistake of buying a thermostat that was not compatible with my HVAC system. Thus, this made me conduct more thorough research and that is when I came across the Honeywell Home T6 Pro. It automatically adjusts the temperature, where you can use geofencing or program the thermostat on a weekly schedule. It works with multiple smart home devices such as the Apple HomeKit and Amazon’s Alexa. Also, it works with a variety of HVAC systems, especially with heat pump ones.

This review will provide you with all the particulars that you should know about before you purchase the Honeywell Home T6 Pro.

Who should buy smart thermostats?

For many people, smart thermostats are an unnecessary investment, while some believe it is an all-in-one solution for heating or cooling in your homes. Not only can you command them with your voice, especially if you already have a smart home system. But you can also save up on tons of energy and costs as they maximize their efficiency. Many smart thermostats come with geofencing, which uses minimal input from you and automatically adjusts the temperature to minimize energy use when no one is home.

However, you must have high-speed wifi and a smart device such as a smartphone or a tablet to be able to use these. They allow you to control the temperature from your smartphone without getting up from your bed, particularly during night time.

Factors to consider before buying Wifi Thermostats:

  • Power: For your smart thermostat to be compatible with your HVAC system the power needs to be of the same voltage. Most systems are either millivolt, 24V, or 110/240V. Low voltage thermostats generally work well with boilers, air conditioners, and heat pumps.

  • Design: When it comes to the design of smart thermostats, most of them have LED displays that may or may not be touch-enabled. You should see whether you can scroll through the interface easily or not. Some designs also have voice control so you should take all these things into account before purchasing one.

  • Smart Alerts: This is a useful feature for someone who tends to be forgetful of little things. These alerts are sent to you on your smartphone app or on the interface, whereby it tells you if it’s time to replace the filter or if the temperature reading is unusually high or low compared to the temperatures you usually set.

  • Installation: Some thermostats are quite easy to install and can be done with the help of a manual, but some require professional installation.

Honeywell Home T6 Pro and its Alternatives

The Honeywell Home T6 Pro is a multi-stage two-heat, one-cool system with an easy to use interface. Honeywell also offers a compatibility checker that lets you know whether your existing HVAC system is compatible with the thermostat. What sets it apart from other smart thermostats is its Smart Response Learning feature. It learns the temperatures initially and then automatically adjusts it later according to your liking. The interface comes with a real-time clock and frequent reminders that notify you when it’s time to change the batteries or filter.

While the Honeywell Home T6 Pro is a good-value smart thermostat, the Nest Learning thermostat is a better deal according to many since it comes with sensors in addition to its smart learning feature. However, it is true though that the Honeywell Home T6 Pro is almost $200 cheaper than the learning thermostat and is still offering learning capabilities in addition to being compatible with voice agents like Alexa and Siri. The  Ecobee 3 Lite 2nd generation is a better option if the Nest Learning one is too out of budget.  While the Honeywell Home T6 Pro is still much cheaper than both, Ecobee 3 comes with sensors that also help save on energy.

If you want a better Honeywell alternative, then the Honeywell Lyric Round is a good option too, as it works with Samsung SmartThings and IFTTT in addition to Apple HomeKit and Amazon Echo. It can also control your humidifier, ventilator, etc. The Honeywell Home T5 is another alternative, which is almost $50 more expensive than the Honeywell Home T6 Pro, but it has an adaptive recovery feature that learns the time taken by the thermostat to automatically reach the desired temperature.

Pros

Cons

Features & Benefits

1. Geofencing

Once you download the Honeywell Connect comfort App, the thermostat detects whether the phone is in range and if it isn’t then it concludes that the person is not home. The thermostat then lowers/increases the temperature to maximize energy efficiency.

2. Programming

Setting up schedules is quite easy in the Honeywell Home T6 Pro. You can set temperatures according to what you want for different times throughout the day. You can also choose to have the same schedule every day or you can set different schedules for the weekday and weekends. However, once you set schedules, the geofencing feature stops working.

3. Apple HomeKit and Amazon Alexa compatible

People who want to control all their smart devices will benefit from this thermostat especially if they have either the Apple HomeKit or the Amazon Alexa. You can give it simple voice commands that allow you to change the temperature with your voice.

What users think of the Honeywell Home T6 Pro

While I was conducting my research on the Honeywell Home T6 Pro I came across many encouraging reviews. Most people liked the thermostat because of its simplicity and geofencing feature. It’s not only easy to navigate with minimal chances of errors but is also quite energy efficient. A user also appreciated the geofencing technology when they went on a vacation and came back to a cool house by simply turning it on from the smartphone app 2 hours before reaching.

Users also appreciated its backlight feature, where the thermostat would dim its light when the thermostat would be idle. Overall users love it because of its reasonable price and ease of use.

Final Thoughts about Honeywell Home T6 Pro

The Honeywell Home T6 Pro is an extremely affordable and small thermostat that has a simple touchscreen interface. It lets you program your schedules, connect with other smart devices, and is compatible with most modern HVAC systems. Also, it offers geofencing technology that helps save on energy costs. However, if you are looking for a smart thermostat with advanced features and that can connect with multi-stage systems then you should probably consider the high-end models.

It is an upgrade for you if you are switching from a traditional dial thermostat. Overall, it is one of the most reasonable thermostats out there, which offers good-value features for the price.
